Programme

The Spanish programmes (Major & Minor) stretch over a period of three to four years and students should enrol as early as their first year of studies at the University. The programmes aim to give students a good command of the Spanish language in the four skill areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as to provide them with an in-depth understanding of contemporary society and culture in the Spanish-speaking world. You can read the Spanish Programme Learning Outcomes and their alignment with the Faculty’s and University’s Educational Aims (UEA) here.

Students taking Spanish are encouraged to travel to a Spanish-speaking country during the course of their studies, preferably in the summer period after completing their second/third year. Longer stays of one or two semesters are also encouraged through the Worldwide Exchange Programme with OISE or Exchange Programs at Faculty level.

Students who cannot enrol into the Major or Minor programme but wish to learn Spanish can join the non-degree programme. Over a period of three years, students can reach a B1 level of proficiency in Spanish.

Locally, the Spanish Programme cooperates closely with all Spanish-speaking consulates with representation in Hong Kong (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Spain, and Venezuela).
