The Spanish Programme welcomes the Consulate General of the Argentine Republic

 

We would like to express our gratitude to Mr Juan Antonio Barreto, Consul of the Argentine Republic in Hong Kong and Macau, for his introduction to the Argentine film screening on the 10th of November. The film was entitled The german Doctor and the screening was attended by students and teachers of the Spanish Programme, as well as by other members of the general public.

We would also like to announce that the screening of the Argentine film Moon of Avellaneda will thake place on Friday 20th of November, from 16:30 to 18:30 in room CRT-4.36 of the Centennial Campus. Typical Argentine pastries and refreshments will be served again.

 

Argentine Movie Days

We are happy to announce that HKU will be hosting the free screening of these two Argentine movies on the 10th and the 20th of November. There will be refreshments and empanadas (Argentine meat pies), courtesy of the Consulate General of the Argentine Republic.

This event is open to the general public and there is no need to register in advance. Both movies will be screened with English subtitles.

 

The Spanish Programme welcomes the Mexican Counselor of the Ministry of Economy of the Government of Mexico

On Thursday, October 29, we invited the Counselor of the Ministry of Economy of the Government of Mexico in Hong Kong, Ms. Susana Muñoz, to deliver a talk about Mexican Business in Hong Kong and intercultural relations between Mexican and Chinese entrepreneurs. Ms. Muñoz has extensive experience in Mexico, the PRC, and Hong Kong, and it was an honor to have her in our Spanish for Business class.

 

SMLC Awards ceremony 2015

The award ceremony for the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (SMLC) took place last Monday, October 26th. The event was attended by students and their families, SMLC staff, and representatives of consulates, institutions, and companies. There were five awards for the Spanish Programme, three from the Consulate General of Spain, represented by Mr. Santiago Martínez Caro, Consul General of Spain in Hong Kong, and two awards from the University of Cadiz, presented by Ms. Rocío Blasco García, Spanish Programme Director.

The Spanish Programme welcomes the consul-general of Peru

The members of the Spanish Programme of HKU would like to express our gratitude to Mr. Sergio Ávila, Consul General of Peru in Hong Kong and Macao, for his participation in the course Spanish for Business and Intercultural Communication on September 24, 2015. The Consul gave an introductory talk on some of the main socioeconomic characteristics of Peru, such as the signature of FTAs, the ethnic composition of the Peruvian population (including references to the large community of Asian origin), and intercultural issues between Asian and Peruvian populations in business contexts.

La primera es este jueves 24 de septiembre y la segunda a finales de octubre respectivamente, ambas en el aula CPD 2.19. Este es el calendario:

Alamar: Mexican movie screening

 

FILM SCREENING – Alamar (To the Sea, dir. Pedro González-Rubio, Mexico, 2009)

Date: September 24th, 2015. (Thursday)

Time: 7:00 PM.

Place: Global Lounge, Hong Kong University, G/F, Fong Shu Chuen Amenities Centre, HKU.

To the Sea (Alamar, 2009) was directed, produced, written, and edited by the Mexican filmmaker Pedro González-Rubio. Alamar follows a young boy from Italy who joins his father, Jorge Machado,  a young man of Mayan roots, and his grandfather, Nestór Marín, in a fishing village on the coast of Mexico. Before their inevitable farewell, Jorge and his half-Italian son spend time together living off the Banco Chinchorro coral reef. This beautiful film won more than 20 international awards. Come and join us!
